Travel Itinerary
Your friendly guide will meet you at the hotel at 08:30 AM to commence a boat excursion on Inle Lake. During the excursion, you will discover the renowned leg rowing fisherman, typical floating gardens, traditional fishing techniques, and observe the village lifestyle while admiring the breathtaking scenery.
Afterward, on market days, you will visit one of the local markets. Following that, you will take another boat excursion to the Western shore of Inle Lake via Thein Creek, passing through stilt house villages and floating gardens until reaching Indein. The village is widely recognized for its ancient pagodas of various shapes and sizes, some of which have been restored, while others remain in their original state of decay.
Around the village, two groups of ancient pagodas, Nyaung Ohak and Shwe Inn Thein, are located. Nyaung Ohak, meaning “group of banyan trees,” is the first site near the boat landing and contains mostly unrestored pagodas in varying states of repair.
On the other hand, a climb from Nyaung Ohak will lead you to the second group of pagodas named Shwe Inn Thein, situated on top of a hill. Most of these pagodas date back to the 17th and 18th centuries, with the earliest one containing an inscription from the 14th century. A 700-meter covered walkway lined with vendors selling Shan shoulder bags, longyis, shirts, and other items will take you up to the pagodas. Once at the top, you will have an excellent view of Indein village and its surroundings.
On your way back to Inle Lake, you will stop at a cheroot factory to learn about the traditional Burmese method of cigar packing and rolling. Finally, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
Notes: The picturesque eight kilometer boat journey from Inle Lake is only possible during the rainy season and winter months. During the summer season, the water level is too low to allow for the boat ride.
