Yangon Railway Station

Yangon Central Railway Station, located in the downtown Yangon, is the largest railway station in Myanmar. It was first built by British in 1877. Multiple train lines are departing from this train station to routes across Myanmar. The Yangon Central Railway Station is also known as the country’s biggest railway station in Myanmar which acts as a significant hub providing connectivity to cities across the country like Mandalay, Bagan and Naypyitaw with its daily train services. 

  • Yangon Circular Railway

    Yangon Circular Railway is the local commuter rail network that serves the Yangon Metropolitan area. Yangon Central Railway Station as the train station is located within the city center. Local transportation services such as taxis, buses are obtainable to reach Yangon Central Railway Station. Once at the Central Railway Station head to platform 6 & 7. There is a ticket counter where you can purchase your ticket and find out when the circular train is departing. The ticket costs around 100MMK for local/ 200 MMK for foreigner. The whole trip will takes at least three hour.

  • Train to Mandalay

    Mandalay is located in Central Myanmar. It is the second largest city after Yangon. The Rangoon to Mandalay express trains are a pretty comfortable. If you want to buy the train ticket for the foreigner, you will need to buy at least three days in advance with the passport copy. For local, one day advance is enough to buy the ticket.

    Rangoon to Naypyitaw is 372 km (233 miles).  Rangoon to Thazi is 493 km (308 miles).

  • Train to Bagan

    Bagan is an ancient city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Mandalay Region Myanmar. Bagan station is a modern pagoda-style station in the middle of nowhere about 5km southeast of the Nyaung Oo township, 9km from Old Bagan.  If you want to buy the train ticket for the foreigner, you will need to buy at least three days in advance with the passport copy. For local, one day advance is enough to buy the ticket.

Mandalay Railway Station

Mandalay Central Railway Station, located in downtown Mandalay, is one of the largest rail stations in Myanmar. This train station serves as the gateway for upper Myanmar to the national rail network that stretches over 3,126 miles, as well as being the terminus of the main rail line departing from Yangon to multiple railway stations along the route.

  • Train to Pyin Oo Lwin – Hispaw – Lashio

    Pyin Oo Lwin is a scenic hill town in Mandalay. Pyin Oo Lwin is a popular weekend and hot-season getaway place for most travelers.

    Hsipaw, also known as Thibaw, is the principal town of Hsipaw township in Shan State, Myanmar on the banks of the Duthawadi River. South of Hsipaw, the train crosses the famous Gokteik, a historic landmark in its own right.

    Lashio is the largest town in northern Shan State, Myanmar. It is situated on a low mountain spur overlooking the valley of the Yaw River.

    Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin is 67 km (42 miles).  Mandalay to Hsipaw is 206km (129 miles).  Mandalay to Lashio is 280 km (175 miles).

  • Train to Kalaw – Yaksauk (Lawksawk) from Thazi

    Lawksawk, also known as Yatsawk was a Shan state. It was located north of Myelat and belonged to the central division of the Southern Shan States. Lawksawk is about 48 kilometers north of Taunggyi. The train from Thazi to Kalaw is 197km (123 miles), Thazi to Shwenyaung is 247km (154 miles) away. 

    From Yangon:  Take the early morning train from Yangon–Thazi and stop overnight in Thazi, then take a train to Kalaw or Shwenyaung the next day. 

    From Mandalay:  Take an afternoon or evening train from Mandalay to Thazi. Stay overnight in Thazi, the next day, take a train to Kalaw or Shwenyaung, an amazing scenic ride on the slow train from Thazi.
