Mandalay – Pyin Oo Lwin – Mandalay Day Return
Embark on a day trip from Mandalay to Pyin Oo Lwin, a charming hill station with a colonial past located in the Shan Highland. Your guide will meet you in the morning at the hotel lobby and take you on a journey towards Pyin Oo Lwin. The scenic drive takes approximately 2 hours and covers a distance of 107 miles, with winding roads that showcase beautiful hillside temples, flower, fruit, and vegetable gardens.
Upon arrival, the first stop is at Peik Chin Myaung, a sacred cave complex that features a 20-foot-wide entrance and extends 1,600 feet into the hillside. The cave is filled with hundreds of Buddha images and shrines, and a natural spring that creates a small river flowing through its interior.
Next, take a leisurely walk through Kandawgyi National Botanical Garden, a vast garden with several lakes, decorative flower beds, and a butterfly museum. The garden was created by Sir Harcourt Butler, a former British governor of Burma, and was designed to replicate the countryside gardens of England. The garden boasts an extensive collection of flora, which includes both domestic and foreign species. The orchid garden showcases various species of orchids, while the dahlia and rose gardens display their respective species in full bloom. In addition, the garden features numerous exotic fruits and shady trees, adding to its overall beauty and charm.
Finally, enjoy a relaxing ride in one of Pyin Oo Lwin’s traditional wooden horse-drawn carriages before making your way back to Mandalay.
At the end of your day trip, drive back to your hotel in Mandalay.
