Travel Itinerary
Begin your day with a drive to Mount Popa, an extinct volcano and a significant site for the Burmese people who believe it is the home of 37 ancient Burmese animist spirits known as Nats. The shrine is located on a volcanic crag called Taung Kalat. Climb the 777 stairs to the top while passing many shrines, and see local pilgrims and monkeys. Learn about nats and their worship during the climb.
Stop at a local palm wine factory on the way to experience the traditional ways of life of the people of upper Myanmar who make good use of the Toddy Palm trees grown along their farms’ fence.
Afternoon, head back to Bagan and visit Palin Elephant Camp. At the camp, visitors can observe a total of eight elephants and engage in various activities such as elephant riding, playing in the water, feeding them, and observing their behavior and story.
Finally, take a local boat on the Irrawaddy River while heading back and admire the magnificent panoramic view of the sunset over the temples and pagodas.
