Experience the charm of Pindaya, a serene lakeside town among the Shan plateau. The main attraction of the town is its vast network of caves that contains a wide array of Buddha images. Pindaya is also known for its handicrafts, and visitors can tour a small factory to witness the entire process of making paper parasols and observe locals crafting the famed Burmese cheroots. Discover the town’s traditional Shan paper umbrella production and explore the magnificent limestone caves hidden in the hills, where over 6,000 Buddhas of varying sizes, made of white marble, bronze, or clay and adorned with gold leaf.

Travel Itinerary
Your guide will pick you up at Nyaung Shwe Jetty at 8:00 AM to begin the tour. You’ll take an interesting drive to Pindaya (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes) across the Shan Plateau, passing through fields of mountain rice.
Next, explore the magnificent Pindaya Cave, a natural limestone cave that houses a vast collection of Buddha images of varying sizes. Buddha statues are crammed into every confined space in the cave, reaching the ceiling. Take a leisurely stroll along Shwe U Min Pagoda Road, passing through towering trees with intertwined branches and trunks to reach the caves.
During the return trip, visit family-owned factories where local families produce Shan paper and parasols. During the tour, you’ll witness the various stages involved in creating the traditional Shan paper umbrellas. This includes observing the process of making rice paper, carving the umbrella’s bamboo base, and the hand-painting of the umbrella.
Finally, take a stroll around the tranquil Pone Taloke Lake to appreciate the peaceful natural surroundings.
In the evening, drive back to your hotel.
