Next, visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda (Mahalawka Marazein), a World Heritage site unique to Mandalay, known as “the world’s largest book” due to its 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings.
Then, take a stroll to the Shwe Nandaw Kyaung, the last remaining wooden structure from the Mandalay Royal Palace, which was once the living quarters of the King and is now a monastery. Explore the intricate wood carvings and learn about the building’s fascinating history.
Afterwards, walk around the moat and brick walls of the Royal Palace, rebuilt after WWII bombings.
Then, visit the Mahamuni Pagoda, one of Myanmar’s holiest Buddhist sites, and view the ancient Buddha Image that is over 2,000 years old, covered in over 15 tons of gold leaf applied by pilgrims over time. You will also visit a nearby gold leaf workshop to observe the process of how gold is pounded by workers into thin sheets of gold leaf.
The tour concludes with a sunset view at the iconic U Bein Bridge, a 200-year-old wooden bridge that stretches over 1.2 kilometers across Taungthaman Lake, making it the longest wooden bridge in the world. Photographers worldwide flock to this iconic bridge for its stunning sunset views and reflection on the water.
