Travel Itinerary
After breakfast at the hotel, take a 2-hour drive (covering 80 kilometers) towards the northwest of Yangon, which will lead you to Bago. This city served as the primary hub of the Mon Kingdom of Lower Myanmar in the 15th century. Along the way, explore a local market before heading to Kyat Kha Waing Monastery, one of the largest in the country. Witness the impressive sight of monks and novices silently taking their last meal of the day.
From there, visit the revered Shwemawdaw Pagoda, featuring a 55-foot reclining Buddha statue believed to have been built in 1944. In the afternoon, continue your tour with visits to Kanbawzathadi Palace, the Shwetharlaung reclining Buddha, and the Maha Zedi. Take a stroll through a Mon village to observe handmade weaving and the daily life of the Mon people, and visit a cheroot-making factory.
Finally, see the towering 28-meter high Buddha statue at Kyeik Pon Pagoda, a four faced Pagoda built by King Dhammaceti in 1475, before returning to Yangon.
If time allows, visit the Htauk Kyant War Memorial Cemetery, dedicated to the memory of the 27,000 allied soldiers who died in the region during World War II.
In the evening, head back to Yangon and transfer to your hotel.
