Meet your guide in the morning at the hotel. Then, begin your tour of Mandalay.

Start by heading to Mandalay Hill to take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside, Irrawaddy River, and the city below. After that, visit the Kuthodaw Pagoda, a UNESCO World Heritage site and Mandalay’s unique attraction, known as “the world’s largest book” due to its 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings.

Next, take a stroll to the Shwe Nandaw Kyaung, the only surviving wooden structure from the Mandalay Royal Palace, which was once the King’s living quarters and now serves as a monastery. Explore the intricate wood carvings and learn about its fascinating history.

Then, visit the Mahamuni Pagoda, one of Myanmar’s holiest Buddhist sites, and marvel at the ancient Buddha Image that has been covered in over 15 tons of gold leaf by pilgrims over time. You’ll also visit a nearby gold leaf workshop to observe the process of pounding gold into thin sheets of gold leaf.

From there, head to the bustling Jetty and board a local boat to sail north for about an hour to visit the riverside village of Mingun. Upon arrival, explore the massive remains of Mingun Pahtodawgyi, an unfinished brick structure that was intended to be even taller than its current height. Despite being abandoned, it remains Myanmar’s most ambitious archaeological endeavor. Then, admire the 90-ton Mingun Bell, which carries significant religious importance in Buddhism.

Afterward, take a short walk to see the Hsinbyume Pagoda, a stunning white pagoda on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, constructed in honor of Prince Bagyidaw’s late wife, Princess Hsinbyume, who passed away during childbirth.

Finally, enjoy the sunset on the river during your return to Mandalay. Transfer back to the hotel for an overnight stay.
