Travel Itinerary
Start your morning by visiting the Nyaung-U morning market to get a glimpse into the daily life of the locals. Then, proceed to Sat Sat Yo Village to experience the authentic lifestyle of the Bagan countryside, which remains unspoiled by tourism. Sat Sat Yoe village has gained popularity as a tourist destination because the children in the village wear the country’s ancient hairstyle, “Sanyitwyne”, which was once commonplace for boys and girls throughout Myanmar before colonial rule. Today, Sat Sat Yoe village is the only remaining place in the country where children still wear their hair in this traditional manner, making it a unique and culturally significant attraction.
Take a tour of the village and continue your journey to Mount Popa, an ancient extinct volcano that houses a temple dedicated to animist spirits. The temple is located on a volcanic crag called Taung Kalat. You’ll have to climb 777 stairs to reach the top, where you’ll learn about nats and nat worship while passing by many shrines and encountering local pilgrims and playful monkeys.
After descending from Taung Kalat, head to Popa Resort for lunch and admire the stunning views of Mount Popa. On the way back to Bagan, take a break at a palm plantation to learn about the manufacturing process of sugar and pomade Palma.
Spend the night in Bagan after the day’s adventures.
