Citizens of many countries can easily obtain an eVisa for tourism or business purposes. The eVisa can be used to enter Myanmar through various air and land entry points.Currently, travel between Myanmar and Thailand, as well as Myanmar and India, is unrestricted. However, crossing the border with Laos is challenging due to its remote location and uncertain permission requirements. Moreover, the borders with Bangladesh and China are closed to foreigners. The eVisa system in Myanmar is straightforward and applicable at the two Indian-Myanmar border points and all Thai-Myanmar border points except Htee Kee/Phunaron, where a regular paper visa must be obtained in advance. To apply for an eVisa, eligible travelers need a valid passport, an email address, and a debit or credit card. The online application process takes only a few minutes, requiring personal and passport information. Once approved, the eVisa is sent to the traveler via email, and a printed copy should be presented at the specified border crossings. With an approved eVisa, travelers can enter Myanmar through eight different ports, including three airports (Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, and Mandalay) and five land border crossings (Myawaddy, Tachileik, Kawthaung, Rihkhawdar, and Tamu). Please note that entering Myanmar with a personal vehicle (motorhome, car, or motorbike) requires special permission and the presence of a guide and, at times, a Ministry of Hotels and Tourism liaison officer. We have extensive experience in route planning, guiding, accommodation, and logistics for overland trips in Myanmar, and we are available to assist you. Permit processing for such trips typically takes at least one month. It is important to note that cycling groups also require permission for border crossings in Myanmar. Similar to other modes of transportation, cyclists need to obtain the necessary permits to enter the country through designated border points. The permission process for cycling groups may have specific requirements and procedures that need to be followed. To ensure a smooth and hassle-free experience, it is recommended to seek updated information and assistance from the relevant authorities or tour operators familiar with Myanmar’s regulations regarding cycling group border crossings. For more up-to-date information, please feel free to contact us.
