Day 2: Myeik Surrounding (Breakfast/Lunch )
Begin your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a guided city tour of Myeik. As one of the first cities settled by the English after the first of the three Anglo-Burmese wars, Myeik boasts beautiful colonial buildings that have stood the test of time.
Your first stop is a ship dockyard, where you’ll witness the locals building wooden boats as they have for generations. Next, you’ll visit a soft shell crab farm, one of Myeik’s main export products, and learn how the crabs are harvested. Then, explore the local snack market, where you’ll discover a mix of Burmese, Thai, Malaysian, and Indian cuisine. Myeik’s rich and varied cuisine is sure to delight any foodie traveler.
Your tour continues with a visit to the dry fish area, a place that has not changed for decades. Here, you’ll learn about the process of preserving fish in the sun for later consumption. The pearl industry is the next highlight, and you’ll visit a Pearl Trading Shop run by the same family for over a hundred years. Learn about the difficulties of pearl cultivation in the crystal clear waters of outer Myeik.
Before sunset, take a leisurely stroll along Myeik’s office street through the colonial quarter, where you’ll see fine examples of historical architecture. Enjoy the sunset and mingle with the locals at Thein Daw Gyi Pagoda, a pagoda built in the 18th century and one of the main tourist attractions in Myeik. Day 3: Myeik – Dome Waterfall – Moken Village – Smart Island (Breakfast/Lunch)
Start your day with a healthy breakfast at the hotel before embarking on an exciting adventure to meet the “sea-gypsies,” an ethnic minority group who lead a traditional, semi-nomadic lifestyle that includes diving for sea cucumbers, fishing, and bartering.
Meet at the hotel and transfer to the jetty for a 1.5-hour boat trip to Dome Waterfall, which cascades down from high above right into the ocean. Marvel at the beauty of the waterfall, but please be careful when walking on the slippery rocks.
Next, visit Dome Nyaung Mai (Moken Village) and meet the Moken people, also known as sea gypsies, who have incredible freediving skills and a nomadic lifestyle. For centuries, they have roamed around the tropical islands by the Kabang (an indigenous boat) and lived as hunters and gatherers. Enjoy an unforgettable local lunch with the famous local “Sea Gipsy.”
After lunch, cruise to Smart Island, one of the most beautiful and unspoiled islands in the archipelago, and enjoy snorkeling, swimming, relaxing, and playing soccer on the three white sandy beaches. One of the beaches here is unique to this archipelago as it is made of pebble stones, making for picture-perfect landscapes and great for snorkeling in crystal clear water.
