Pyin Oo Lwin, also known as Maymyo, is a picturesque town located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar. It is situated on the Shan Plateau, approximately 67 kilometers (42 miles) east of Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. Due to its elevation of around 1,070 meters (3,510 feet) above sea level, Pyin Oo Lwin enjoys a cooler climate compared to other parts of Myanmar. The town experiences milder temperatures, and the weather is often characterized by pleasant breezes. Pyin Oo Lwin was initially established as a British hill station during the colonial era in the late 19th century.
