Travel itinerary

  • Day 01: Bagan – Salay (Bike and Boat)

    Begin the day by disembarking and hopping on bicycles to embark on an exhilarating journey. Ride through dirt tracks amidst picturesque farmland and continue along sandy roads, venturing into bamboo villages rarely explored by foreigners. The trail eventually leads to a quaint jetty, where a boat awaits to transport you to Salay,  

    Arrive in Salay, disembark from the boat, and proceed to check in at the hotel.

    Next, delight in the delectable traditional lunch that awaits you there. This serene riverside town harbors a plethora of intriguing sights, still hidden from the typical tourist routes. Spend the afternoon exploring Salay’s captivating streets and temples on a bike or on foot, uncovering ancient ruins. Make sure to visit the largest lacquerware Buddha image in Myanmar. According to local legend, this Buddha image, known as the Mann Paya Buddha, was discovered on the riverbanks near Salay after a massive flood in 1888. It is believed to have washed ashore, carried by the currents. The Mann Paya Buddha is renowned for its size and the remarkable preservation of its lacquerware coating.

  • Day 02: Salay – Bagan

    Rise early in the morning as the trail ascends steadily towards the hills, with villagers awakening and going about their daily routines. Experience the vibrant atmosphere near the market in Chauk, the birthplace of British Petroleum, formerly known as the Anglo-Persian Oil Company. In the early 20th century, oil was discovered in the area, leading to the establishment of the Chauk Oil Fields and the development of the petroleum industry in Myanmar.

    Noodle shops and local eateries in Chauk offer a taste of authentic Burmese flavors, providing an opportunity to indulge in the local culinary delights. Take a break and savor a bowl of noodles while witnessing children on their way to school and women carrying out their grocery shopping, offering visitors a glimpse into the daily lives of the local community. Resume your cycling journey alongside the river and pause for a leisurely lunch at a riverside restaurant.

    Continue your exploration as you enter Bagan, traversing tranquil pathways that lead you to mystical ruins. Afterward, make your way back to the hotel and settle in for the night.
